The typical building for a 4,000 m2 plot in an organized industrial zone consists of a plain and simple box for production, almost always clad in sandwich panels for speed of construction and cost efficiency and another, smaller box for administration usually with a more elaborate façade displaying stylistic variations from postmodern takes on the traditional Turkish house to a number of different contemporary trends in architecture. What’s common in almost all of these buildings is the clear separation of production and administration functions by architectural articulation.

The design for Üçgen CNC factory unifies the two main functional volumes namely the production hall and the office block by folding surfaces around the volumes. The resultant geometry also creates negative outdoor spaces that define the main entrance, shading for the office façade and an outdoor terrace.

Due to the slope of the plot, the service road around the building is a series of ramps that establish a visual relationship with the folding geometries of the building as well as functional one. The semi-basement of the office block is articulated as a pedestal for the unified volumes above and can be accessed separately via the service ramp to the south of the building.
