The main strategy for ITU’s new school of management building is to repurpose the 19th century building next to the project site as a separate administration building for the SOM and connect the two buildings with a bridge.

The new building is conceived as two linear blocks, one for classrooms and one for faculty offices. Two main cores connect the two blocks on every level. Voids between the blocks establish visual connections between the blocks and different levels and help to get sunlight to the center of the building.

The façade of the classroom block is an expression of the structural grid in reference to the existing modernist building that is to be replaced. The block for the faculty offices is based o a grid as well. However the east façade, facing the residential neighborhood is characterized by external corridors on every level with cantilevering balconies and stairs that connect different levels. These areas are intended for the faculty and their visiting students to socialize, making the building more playful and less institutional.
