Palanga is a farm founded by the international Turkish artist and film maker Kutluğ Ataman. Each building on the farm is designed by a Turkish architecture office. The building assigned to us is the tiny greenhouse. The structure is intended as a little sanctuary for Mr. Ataman. The greenhouse is a simple triangular prism that rests on concrete foundations raised above ground level to keep it clear from heavy snow fall in winter.
The tectonics and hierarchy of the whole structure is clearly visible and can be traced from ground up as a series of assembly operations, as a metaphor for growth. Structure, seeding tray tables, doors and façade panels are all tied together as a whole. The material, functional and structural dimensions are orchestrated to achieve an overall simplicity.
